Full details are expected to be revealed by Armed Forces Minister Nick Harvey in a statement to the House of Commons today

Nearly one thousand troops are being transferred to RAF Kinloss next summer, two years earlier than expected.

RAF Kinloss had been earmarked for closure under the UK Government's Strategic Defence Review, but won a last minute reprieve.

We had been expecting 1,200 troops to be transferred from Germany to Kinloss by 2014.

But today the Ministry of Defence will announce that 930 members of 39 Engineer Regiment Air Support will move from Waterbeach near Cambridge to Moray in the summer of 2012.

Local SNP MP Angus Robertson has welcomed the news, but says it's still "worrying" the total number of personnel on the base will be down by over 40%.

A further announcement about more troops transferring to Moray will be made at a later date.
