Story Highlight

MFR Two's Queen of Country, Wednesdays from 8 - 10pm

I have enjoyed almost 30 great years with Moray Firth Radio through my interest in Country Music which started with listening to Charley Pride’s music in 1973. I then became interested in all forms of Country and checked out artists to add to my varied record collection, and enjoyed concerts and festivals. I also made several visits to America to check out Nashville, Branson, Pigeon Forge etc. and on later visits interviewed hundreds of top names.

When the radio station went on air in February 1982 I had no desire to be a presenter but I thought I'd lend my records….and tell them what to play!!  In March 1982 I returned from the Wembley Country Festival with lots of Interviews I had done with visiting American artists and from then on I was presenting two programmes a week.

My current show - Helen’s Kind Of Country - is on Wednesdays from 8-10pm on MFR Two (listen | how to listen). The programme is a must for Country Music fans as I  include a  great selection of new, old, American, Irish, British and local Country music…..If it’s good I play it! I also include some great artist interviews.

When I'm not on air I also work part-time as a receptionist at Moray FIrth Radio which keeps me totally involved... and Young..ish!

I've been very fortunate to win a number of awards over the years and I think it’s great that I have been recognised for my efforts..
